Stiaan Louw
Aimed at today's
'urban warriors' Stiaan Louw's most recent 'Tribe' collection is distinguished
by tuxedo pants combined with oversized cardigans, schoolboy shorts
and modern trench coats in navy, black and white.
Inspired by social,
sexual and traditional cultural themes, all currently evident in the
youth culture, Stiaan says that he wanted to create a modern interpretation,
related to specific forms of self-expression.
On muses and collaboration,
Stiaan says, "My muses include Nick Wicht and Justin Poulter -
both of whom have an androgynous quality. I worked with Daley Muller
on the prints for the 'Tribe' collection. I prefer printing in the same
colour as the base fabric as it adds texture and surface interest without
becoming too much of a focal point."
Stiaan hails from
Cape Town and has been very active in the design world. He has created
accessories for Maya Prass' collections for the past three years. In
2005 he approached graphic designer Pieter de Groot to create prints
for his label and in 2006 he was selected as a semi-finalist in the
Nederburg Rare Fashion Finds initiative.
